In order to strengthen the administrative tasks of NGOs in our country, United Way Panama, Fundación Sus Buenos Vecinos of Banco General, USAID, the University of Louisville and SumaRSE joined forces last March to launch the first Certificate in NGO Management in Panama.

After 120 hours invested and 3 months of intensive courses, Executive Directors of 29 organizations graduated from with a Certificate in NGO Management for the first time in Panama. The Directors were trained in topics such as Governance, Public-Private Partnerships, Financial Management, Volunteer Management and others. The knowledge gained will help the financial and administrative tasks within the NGOs to be more effective.

Olga Carrasco, Executive Director of Fundacancer indicates that «Each of the 120 hours spent in the classroom served to clarify and confirm that leaders like us, have a responsibility to focus on planning and implementing strategies that serve as a bridge between the present and future, that projects are developed and evaluated taking into account their sustainability over time and that the administrative structure of each NGO is the skeleton that serves as support for all its actions. Only then, we can become a good, credible social entity”.

It is expected that next year, the Certificate in NGO Management can be replicated and opened to the public in order to benefit more organizations and the communities they serve.
