Caterpillar y United Way patrocinaron la remodelación y equipamiento de una nueva aula tecnológica en las Industrias de Buena Voluntad ubicada en San Miguelito. El aula tiene capacidad para 20 personas y será abierto para el uso de la comunidad. De igual forma, se contará con un Técnico en Informática que dictará cursos de manejo básico de computadoras y en donde se enseñará a usar Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Esta iniciativa ayudará a personas tanto con discapacidad física como mental, a aprender sobre el uso y manejo de computadoras.

United Way and Caterpillar Foundation inaugurate computer lab at Goodwill Industries

United Way and Caterpillar Foundation sponsored the renovation and equipping of a new computer lab at Goodwill Industries in San Miguelito. The lab has a capacity of twenty people and it will be open to the public. Additionally, there will be a technician that will teach basic computer courses including the usage of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). This initiative will help people with mental or physical disabilities to learn how to use a computer.

130 voluntarios pertenecientes a la unidad de negocios, Finance and Accounting de P&G, se unieron de manera solidaria para atender las necesidades que presentaba la escuela La Mata en Río Hato. Los voluntarios desarrollaron actividades de «Cuenta Cuentos» en las aulas de clase y repartieron obsequios a los estudiantes. De igual forma, los voluntarios armaron nuevas porterías y trazaron la cancha de fútbol, pintaron el salón de cómputo y armaron las mesas de computadoras, colocaron nuevos libreros y organizaron la biblioteca. Para el aula infantil se armaron nuevas mesitas, sillas y muebles. Los dormitorios de los profesores fueron pintados y amueblados.

130 volunteers do community work in Rio Hato

130 volunteers of P&G’s business unit, Finance and Accounting, spent a Saturday morning in Rio Hato in order to address the school’s needs. The volunteers participated in several activities including storytelling in classrooms and distributing gift bags to the students. Similarly, volunteers drew the lines of the soccer field, put together new goals and organize a mini soccer tournament with the students. The computer room was painted and the volunteers assembled new computer desks, bookcases and organized the new library section. They also put together new tables, chairs and furniture in the children’s classroom. The teachers’ dormitories were painted by the volunteers and furnished.

Recientemente, United Way Panamá hizo entrega de una beca académica a Eliany Mosquera, ganadora del programa de TVN “Canta Conmigo”. Eliany cursa en el Instituto Profesional y Técnico de Rio Hato, una de las escuelas en donde United Way Panamá desarrolla el programa “Creciendo Unidos” que brinda formación integral y asistencia educativa a más de 500 estudiantes de educación preescolar, primaria y premedia en 10 escuelas de Río Hato.

United Way Panamá awards academic scholarship in Rio Hato

Recently, United Way Panama awarded Eliany Mosquera, winner of TVN’s singing competition «Canta Conmigo» with an academic scholarship. Eliany is a student at the Instituto Profesional y Técnico of Rio Hato, one of the schools where United Way Panama develops «Creciendo Unidos» a program that provides training and educational assistance to more than 500 students in 10 schools of Rio Hato.

En días pasados, una delegación de United Way Panamá representados por Gerald Gómez, Presidente, Marisa Arias, Directora Ejecutiva y Haiko Ledezma de Procter & Gamble visitaron el Centro de Excelencia en Educación Temprana de United Way Miami-Dade con el propósito de aprender las mejores prácticas de este establecimiento.  El Centro tiene como misión elevar la calidad de atención y educación en primera infancia, tanto en el Condado de Miami-Dade como más allá.

Durante la visita, United Way Panamá pudo conocer de primera mano la Escuela de Demostración del Centro, donde alrededor de 130 niños ponen las mejores prácticas de la educación temprana a prueba. Los niños desde seis semanas hasta los cinco años de edad, reciben cuidado de alta calidad y educación para prepararlos cognitiva, física y emocionalmente para ingresar a la escuela. Los niños de todos los niveles socioeconómicos, culturales y orígenes étnicos aprenden en un ambiente acogedor, con acceso a la última tecnología. Todo, desde el plan de estudio hasta la decoración del lugar, ha sido diseñado para estimular las mentes de los niños, respaldados por las investigaciones científicas más recientes. La escuela actúa como un programa modelo para otros centros educativos de carácter local y nacional.

Visit to United Way’s Center for Excellence in Early Education in Miami-Dade

Recently, a delegation of United Way Panama represented by Gerald Gómez, President, Marisa Arias, Executive Director and Haiko Ledezma of Procter & Gamble visited the Center for Excellence in Early Education Miami-Dade United Way, in order to learn about the center’s best practices. The Center’s mission is to elevate the quality of care and early childhood education, in Miami-Dade County and beyond.

During the visit, United Way Panamá got to experience first-hand, how 130 children receive the highest quality early care and education that allows them to have the best possible start in school and life. Children of varying abilities, ages six weeks to five years old, receive the highest quality early care and education to prepare them cognitively, physically and emotionally to enter school eager and ready to learn.  The School also offers parents trainings and other services to help them become their child’s first and most important teacher. Children of all socioeconomic levels, cultural and ethnic backgrounds learn in a nurturing environment, with access to the latest technology. Everything from curriculum to the décor is designed to stimulate young minds, and is backed by the latest research. The School allows for observation without interrupting the learning process, and acts as a model program for other national and local early care and education centers.

El Centro de Atención Integral Barraza ya está más cerca de ser una realidad para los 300 niños y niñas que se beneficiarán de este lugar. A principios de julio se culminó la colocación del techo y se prevé que para Octubre de este año se inaugure el Centro, el cual tiene como misión,  rescatar del peligro de las calles a los niños y niñas de Barranza y el Chorrillo.

El Centro proveerá reforzamiento escolar, clases de cómputo, arte, danza y cultura, teatro y  contará con un comedor infantil. United Way Panamá está patrocinando el salón de danza y cultura para darle  la oportunidad a los niños y niñas de desarrollar talentos en danza escénica en un ambiente saludable y divertido para asistir al culminar las clases.

 Advancements at «Centro de Atención Integral» in Barraza 

The Centro de Atención Integral Barraza will soon become a reality for the 300 children who have been waiting for this center to open. At the beginning of July, the placement of the roof was completed and the inauguration is now projected to be in October of this year. The Center’s mission is to rescue children of Barraza and El Chorrillo, both considered red zones, from the dangers of the streets.

The Center will provide after school tutoring, art, dance, culture, theater and computer classes. United Way Panamá is sponsoring the Dance and Culture classroom in order to provide a safe environment for kids to develop cultural, arts and dance skills.
