El sábado 13 de Junio, United Way Panamá acompañó a los voluntarios de CITI Panamá a celebrar el Global Community Day en el Colegio Elena Ch. de Pinate.

En esta actividad de voluntariado, se aprovechó para realizar una limpieza profunda del Salón de Actos, al igual que embellecer sus paredes con un mural alusivo a los valores junto al equipo de voluntarios de CITI y el colegio.

Durante el 2014, CITI y United Way Panamá desarrollaron el programa Finanzas Para El Cambio en este colegio.

On Saturday, June 13th, accompanied Panama United Way volunteers CITI Panama to celebrate the Global Community Day School in the Elena Ch. Of Pinate.

In this activdidad volunteer, he took advantage to perform a deep cleaning Hall, as beautify your walls with a mural alluding to the values with the team of volunteers from Citi and school.

During 2014, CITI Panama and United Way developed the Finance For Change program at this school.

United Way Panamá ha firmado un convenio de cooperación con la Universidad Metropolitana de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología (UMECIT) y la Universidad Americana (UAM) para impulsar el Programa Big Hearts desarrollado en alianza con Fundación Garda de Sofnet y la Fundación sus Buenos Vecinos del Banco General. Big Hearts es un aplicativo para facilitar la administración y gestión de las organizaciones sin fines de lucro, mediante el registro e integración de la información de forma eficiente. A través de su voluntariado, los estudiantes de la UMECIT y la UAM brindarán apoyo para la capturación de datos de los beneficiarios de las organizaciones sin fines de lucro que están utilizando actualmente el aplicativo y así obtener mayores beneficios a través del intercambio académico.

United Way Panamá signs an agreement with the UMECIT and UAM universities

United Way Panama has signed a cooperation agreement with the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT) and the American University (UAM) to work with the Big Hearts program developed in partnership with UWP, Softnet’s Fundación Garda and the Fundación Sus Buenos Vecinos. Big Hearts is an application to facilitate the administration and management of non-profit organizations, by registering and integrating information efficiently. Through volunteering, students of the UAM & UMECIT will provide support for data capture, benefitting nonprofit organizations that are currently using the application and obtain greater benefits through academic exchange.

El pasado 27 de Junio, Global Shapers Panamá con el apoyo de United Way Panamá, comenzó a ejecutar la segunda etapa del proyecto “Escuchando a la Comunidad” en el Colegio Elena Ch. de Pinate y el Instituto Dr. Alfredo Canton.

La iniciativa “Escuchando a la Comunidad” tiene como objetivo obtener mayores conocimientos sobre la opinión de la población juvenil a nivel nacional con respecto a sus aspiraciones en temas educativos. Este proyecto se basa en un formato de discusión abierta donde se le hacen preguntas relacionadas a la educación a jóvenes a nivel nacional para analizar la percepción real que tienen ellos con respecto al sistema educativo actual y los cambios que quisieran ver en un futuro.

Esta segunda fase de “Escuchando a la Comunidad” se formularán modelos de escuchas en diferentes escuelas, logrando así espacios de diálogo y participación para los estudiantes, donde podrán desarrollar proyectos y planes de acción en sus colegios. Además, en esta fase, se formará a los estudiantes participantes en liderazgo, participación ciudadana, administración, y planificación del tiempo. Además, se trabajará junto a los estudiantes para desarrollar un sistema de elecciones y gobierno estudiantil para poder llevar a cabo los proyectos que desarrollen que surjan de las ‘escuchas’.

The second phase of listening to the community started!

On June 27th, the Global Shapers Panama Hub with the support of United Way Panama, began implementing the second phase of the “Listening to the Community” project at the Elena Ch. de Pinate School and the Instituto Dr. Alfredo Canton.

The initiative “Listening to the Community” aims to gain more insight on the views of young people nationwide about their aspirations on educational issues. This project is based on an open discussion format where you can ask questions related to education to young people at a national level and analyze their perception of the current education system and the changes they want to see in the future.

This second phase of “Listening to the Community” will be developed in different schools and will create a space for dialogue and participation for students where they can develop projects and action plans within their schools. In addition, at this stage, participating students will be trained in leadership, citizen participation, and time management. In addition, students will work to develop a system of student government elections that will help them carry out the projects developed in the program.

Mercedes Eleta de Brenes, presidenta de United Way Panamá, fue una de las oradoras de fondo en el Encuentro Nacional para los Asociados y Administradores de las Infoplazas. La señora Eleta diserta sobre los Centros de Alcance por mi Barrio como un espacio de encuentro de la comunidad juvenil en el que se implementan tecnologías para reducir la brecha digital. El referido evento tuvo como objetivo intercambiar experiencias exitosas y preparar a los Administradores de los Infoplazas en el manejo de herramientas y metodologías que les permitan brindar un servicio eficiente y eficaz, en conmemoración a los 15 años del Programa de Infoplaza a Secretaría Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (SENACYT). La actividad se realizó los días 24, 25 y 26 de junio de 2015, en el Salón Vasco Núñez de Balboa del Hotel El Panamá.

United Way Panama participated in the National Meeting for Associates & Administrators of Infoplazas

Mercedes Eleta de Brenes, president of United Way Panama, was one of the speakers at the National Meeting for Associates and directors of the Infoplazas. Mrs. Eleta’s lecture focused on United Way’s Outreach Centers as a meeting for young people in the community and a place where technology is implemented to reduce the digital divide. The aforementioned event aimed to exchange successful experiences and prepare Managers of Infoplazas with tools and methodologies that enable them to provide efficient and effective service, as well as commemorating 15 years of SENACYT’s Infoplaza Program. The activity was held from June 24th through the 26th at the Hotel El Panama.
