En alianza United Way Panamá, Global Shapers Panamá y Unidos por la Educación firmaron convenio para desarrollar la iniciativa «Escuchando a la Comunidad» que tiene como objetivo obtener mayores conocimientos sobre la opinión de la población juvenil a nivel nacional con respecto a sus aspiraciones en temas educativos.
La iniciativa se basa en un formato de discusión abierta donde se le harán preguntas relacionadas a la educación a jóvenes a nivel nacional para analizar la percepción real que tienen los jóvenes con respecto al sistema educativo actual y los cambios que quisieran ver en un futuro. Se creará un documento recopilando los resultados sobre las aspiraciones de los jóvenes en temas educativos para contribuir al debate nacional sobre la agenda educativa.
“Escuchando a la Comunidad” es un proyecto creado por United Way Worldwide en alianza con el Instituto Harwood al identificar que los problemas existentes en las comunidades no pueden ser resueltos sin conocer la realidad que viven las personas que componen estas comunidades.
“No se puede aprender sobre los problemas que existen en nuestras comunidades si solo miramos las estadísticas. Debemos escuchar y aprender de los jóvenes. El panorama real lo obtendremos mediante conversaciones reales y auténticas en donde los jóvenes comparten los retos que enfrentan, los cambios que anhelan ver en sus comunidades y en Panamá” – expresó Marisa Arias, Directora Ejecutiva de United Way Panamá.
«Consideramos que los jóvenes tienen el derecho a expresar su opinión en un asunto tan importante, y creemos firmemente que esta alianza estratégica le dará un espacio a la voz de la juventud y nos permitirá contribuir con los resultados del proyecto, elementos relevantes a considerar en el desarrollo de políticas públicas para la educación en Panamá»- señaló Hugo Wood, curador de Global Shapers Panamá para el periodo 2013 – 2014.

Todos tenemos un rol que cumplir en la educación y formación integral de nuestros hijos. Como principales responsables, liderando esa causa, deben estar los padres de familia; quienes deben acompañar y complementar el trabajo de los docentes. Para gestionar con mayor efectividad la misión de educar a los hijos de Panamá, es necesario entenderlos. Como cualquier otro servicio que deseemos mejorar, el primer paso es atender las necesidades, percepciones y preferencias del cliente. En nuestro caso “los clientes” son precisamente “el sujeto” de la Educación, los jóvenes. Este proyecto tiene un altísimo valor y aumenta el potencial que tenemos para educar mejor a nuestros hijos.” – indicó Gaspar García de Paredes, Presidente de Unidos por la Educación.
Project «Listening to the Community» investigates educational aspirations of young Panamanians
United Way Panama in partnership with Global Shapers and Unidos por la Educación signed an agreement to develop the initiative «Listening to the Community», which aims to gain more knowledge regarding the educational aspirations young adolescents have nationwide.
The project is based on an open discussion format where students are asked questions about their education in order to analyze the real perception young adults have regarding their current education system and the changes they wish to see in the future. The results of this initiative will highlight the aspirations young people have regarding educational issues that will contribute to the national debate on the educational agenda.
«Listening to the Community» is a project adopted from United Way Worldwide in partnership with the Harwood Institute. It was created to identify existing problems in communities. It is based on the premise that problems cannot be solved without experiencing first-hand what people living in these communities face daily.
«You cannot learn about the problems that exist in our communities if you only look at the statistics. We must listen and learn from the young adults. We believe that through real and authentic conversations, young people can share the challenges they face and the changes they long to see in their communities and in Panama » noted Marisa Arias, Executive Director of United Way Panama.

The parents must accompany and complement the work of teachers. To effectively manage the mission of educating the children of Panama, it is necessary to understand them. Like any other service that we want to improve, the first step is to meet the needs, perceptions and preferences. In our case «customers» are precisely the «subject» of education, youth.
