GET TO KNOW OUR NEW PROJECTS FOR 2012!

Fundación Valórate – Ciudad del Niño – Centro de Alcance Cristo Redentor

We begin 2012 with a big desire to start more high impact projects in our communities.    That is why, we are pleased to present three new educational projects through which United Way Panamá and its partners will provide opportunites for a better future to hundreds of boys and girls of Panamá:

“Fundación Valorate” is dedicated to support children with ADD- Attention Deficit Disorder. Valorate will incorporate the program «Building Opportunities» in order to equip the center with essential materials and personnel, allowing the center to specialize in the treatment of both, attention and learning related disabilities. With the support of United Way Panama, the “Valorate Foundation” will be able to reach 1,400 children and 1,440 teachers. The foundation will also organize workshops for children and adolescents who are at risk of dropping out of school, as well as organize separate workshops for the parents and teachers.

“La Ciudad del Niño” or “The Children’s Village”, established in Chorrera, is responsible of providing developmental opportunities to 200 children and young adults in extreme poverty. The beneficiaries of this village either have no family, or have families that are unable to provide for them. La Ciudad del Niño’s main goal is to ensure that these children receive a respectable upbringing and education. With the support of United Way Panama, the Children’s Village will implement a project called «Improving the Quality of Education» that will provide sufficient human and technological resources, in order to expand and strengthen the academic and emotional support which they already provide to the children. The Children’s Village currently offers after-school tutoring that emphasizes teaching the children superior study habits, and also teaches the children ways in which they can be more productive with their free time. The project includes academic enrichment activities in the subjects where children have the lowest grades (Mathematics and English). The Center also provides special academic tutoring to 40 students whom have special educational needs.

The “Centro de Alcance Cristo Redentor” or “Christ’s Outreach Center” is currently known and respected for its ecclesiastic programs towards children and young adults that live in red zones. United Way Panama and USAID’s “Centro de Alcance en Positivo” will finance the implementation of a new outreach center called “Centro de Alcance por mi Barrio San Pancracio” to benefit the neighborhood of St. Pancras. This new outreach center will benefit 330 young people between the ages of 12 and 29. The new center will offer the children such activities as: job training workshops, courses in computer science, English, dressmaking, jewelry design, and audio production. After-school tutoring will be offered to children and young adults in the community who remain in the educational system.
